Supported Scenarios
- Extend vSphere Distributed Switches and NSX extended network
- vSphere Distributed Switch Version 5.1.0 or higher
- vSphere Distributed Switch Version 5.1.0 or higher
Unsupported scenarios
- Extend networks used to create the network profiles.
- vSphere Standard Switch networks:
- Extend the vSphere Management network or other VMkernel networks like vMotion, vSAN or replication
- Cisco NSX1000v or other third-party switches.
- Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) with VMware Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM).
- vSphere Distributed Switches configured with LACP.
- Daisy-chaining a single network to three separate destination sites is not supported
- Virtual machine networks must only be extended with a single solution.

Limits
HCX has some limits that need to be take in consideration . Bellow we have an list with limits for extension an also a documentation reference to all current limits.
Limit: 200
Description: Maximum number of source networks that can be extended to per Network Extension appliance.
Limit: 8
Description: 10 Network Extension appliance interfaces minus uplink/management.
Limit: Approx 4-6+ Gbits/sec for 10G pNic
Description: 4-6+ Gbps per HCX Network Extension Appliance. Observed performance in similar environments can vary depending on factors like MTU, Latency, Environment Traffic, Network Bandwidth, CPU, Memory resources.
Limit: Approx. 1 Gbits/sec for 10G pNic
Description: 1 Gbps per Network Flow. The observed performance in similar environments can vary depending on factors like MTU, Latency, Environment Traffic, Network Bandwidth, CPU, Memory resources.
What look for
- Base architecture of Network + uplinks
- VMware switches implementatioin
- VLANs on top of Virtual switches
- Create network and host profiles for service mesh
- Number of network to be extended
- IP Addresses Pool required to the planned service mesh
- Storage available for planned service mesh
- Compute power memory and cores available for planned service mesh
